And just like that, Expo 2020 Dubai is over. I m And just like that, Expo 2020 Dubai is over.

I managed to visit the site 3 times this month. The architecture, textures and colours of Expo were truly inspiring. The venue is big with much to see and do, I barely scratched the surface.

Japan pavilion was a once in a lifetime experience, with a pavillon that is beautifully designed and a very interactive exhibit. I hope to replace this stamp in my Expo passport with the real one in my actual passport in 2025, InshAllah.

It goes without saying that the past 2 years have It goes without saying that the past 2 years have been an immense challenge for us all. We’ve been forced to confront our current lifestyle and realize that perhaps, we don’t want to do the things we are currently doing. That what we want to do with our lives matters.

I’ve had the privilege to attend The Heart of Design course twice, once at the start of the pandemic in April 2020 and the second time in September 2021. This course is unlike anything out there and has been an eye opening experience. A balance between design and spirituality, this course has certainly helped me take a step back and really think about my role as a graphic designer, how I can better align myself spiritually and most importantly to design with heart. It’s an ongoing journey and a work in progress, one that I hope to continue in 2022, InshAllah.

Please do check out @theheartofdesign for more details, the next 5 week program starts in late January 2022.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year and a peaceful 2022!

10 years. I landed in the UAE 10 years ago yesterd 10 years. I landed in the UAE 10 years ago yesterday after my honeymoon. The start of a new journey, taking a step forward on new land. I remember looking on quietly at the tall buildings, taking in the new sights that would be my new home. As I discovered the UAE, I learned that it is multi-faceted, balancing between tradition and modern. A safe country with an advanced infrastructure, tall buildings and many entertainment options. A land with a diverse ecosystem comprising of different colour sand dunes, green vegetation, serene mountains and many native animals (including my namesake the Arabian Oryx, Al Maha).

In the decade that I’ve lived here, I’ve watched the country grow and change at a rapid pace. I’ve seen how hard working and resilient the people living here are, especially in the past 22 months. Along with the country, I’ve also grown and learned so much living here and look forward to the future, InshAllah.

It’s not always easy to start in a new country and I’m so grateful that I chose the UAE as my home with my husband. Happy 50th National Day UAE! 🇦🇪 I pray for your continued success for many more years to come.
